First pc build

Hey guys, i just completed my first pc build and did it just for flight sim but not happy with the performance i am getting, im not sure if its the pc or if its me, but with my set-up im getting on max sliders 2-7fps. i no somethings not right i put all the latest drivers on, just not sure what i am missing.

specs are as follows:

Motherboard :  Gigabyte ga-x58a-ud3r
CPU :  I7 950 3.06ghz (had it overclocked to 4.00ghz)
Cooling :  Corsair h70 liquid cooling
RAM : Corsair dominator 12gb(3x4gb) DDR3
Graphics card : Gigabyte GTX 560 ti OC (soon to be 2)
Operating System : Windows 7 64
Power supply : Thermaltake evo 750w
Hdd/ssd : 1st, seagate monmentus xt ssd hybrid. 2nd :  Western digital caviar black 1tb sataIII 64mb

So if any1 can help it would be greatly apprieciated.

Try the above for starters and with all your sliders maxed out that maybe why your FPS is so low.  Commercial airline, GA airline, airport vehicles, car, boat and ferry traffic add a lot of work to the CPU and if you have all those maxed out along with having all your scenery sliders maxed out you are probably driving your CPU so much.

I have a 980X @ 4.44GHz and I do not even have all my sliders maxed out!

Holy Moly! That's one helluva rig! How are you not able to max out the sliders? Dude, my rig is 3 levels below that, and I have had the settings maxed for over 2 years, now. Even edited the .cfg for higher LOD radius.
I can't really think of a place on this rig that is lacking...
Maybe power supply? I got an 850W, and using all of it, but for pete's sake you are at 750, that should be plenty...
If you do use 2 cards, make sure to use more than that, but with one, you will have NO problems.
How's your mem latencies?
I never had to do any funky windows tuning or anything like that, but plenty of people are. There is plenty of good info in NickN's thread.
You have great equipment there, and plenty of power, it should be crankin'!
Not to presume that you don't, but frequently defrag? How bout a clean install? Got a lot of trialware? Norton antivirus? Did you build this rig yourself?

Thanks mate, i think you might be right with the power supply its not a 80+ certified so dont really no how it would be performing maxed out, my VC minimum is 500w last night i was messing around o/c the card and the best i got was about 950mhz core clock(standed 900) at 1.15v(max with msi afterburner) and the thing is it doesnt start getting artifacts or anything its just stops working and shows the error "display driver stopped working" so i have been looking at a 1000w 80+ i think i might try that and c how we go.

Also my benchmark scores with 3dmark11 with stock cpu(3.06ghz) and stock VC(900mhz) i got P4452. Then i ran it at 4.21ghz(standed voltage) and VC 945mhz(@1.050v) and got a score of P4712.

My mem latencys are 9-9-9-24 standed as this is my first pc build

For all LGA-1366 based systems (all 9xx series Core i7) make sure the RAM doesn't go above a voltage that is 0.5v higher than the uncore voltage of the CPU. Uncore voltage is usually called "QPI/DRAM Voltage", "VTT" or "QPI/VTT", in BIOS or similar. Usually this means that you shouldn't go above 1.65v on the RAM or you risk killing the CPU.

EEK! Ok, so there's the difference between generic help and help from an Intel guy. I got AMD stuff, and had no idea about that setting. It may not even be available in your bios, but now at least you know.

That seems fairly fragile, to me, though. 1.6 max? A little sensitive, maybe? Anyway, some RAM start at CL9 @ 1.4V+-, you should be able to throw .1-.2 V at it no matter where its default value is, without any serious problems. If that were always the case, there woulld be no way to get 6-7-6-18 like a couple of these intel hot rod machines are getting.

Electrically, the RAM needs to charge for a few cycles before it does work. If you change the ammount of clock cycles down, you need more voltage to compensate. It is a minute level of change, though now that you know, do not exceed 1.65.

You would be surprised at how fast RAM can be at 1.65v.

If you increase the uncore voltage then RAM > 1.65v is safe, just make sure the difference between uncore and dram is equal to or less than 0.5v.
