Svchost.exe

Postby Mitch. » Mon Aug 16, 2010 7:45 am

I'm writing this from an iPod please excuse any mistakes.

After turning my computer on, the windows "welcome" screens appears as normal but stays on that screen far longer than usual then I get the error message "svchost.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log is being created".

Eventually windows starts after more longer than usual waiting. My wireless Internet doesnt connect, ie explorer crashes, trend micro (my Internet security) program doesn't open when clicked basically anything to do with the Internet fails to work.
Searching the net leads me to believe I have a virus using the name svchost.exe. Which is tricky because svchost is normal part of windows. A lot of the solutions on the net are not consistent and majority are fir windows 2000, I'm running xp with sp3.
Another error prompt appeared only once though about "winsock failed to initialize" if that helps.

I don't want to run my comp until I find a certain fix and if there is anybody who can help or has experienced this problem as well, would greatly lovve to hear from you. Thanks

Mitch......

That's a PIA.  Never had that virus ... but dealt with one other nasty one.  Good luck... wish I had suggestions.

best,
