I think I killed my PC?!?!? help....

Postby fulanito_uk » Fri May 28, 2010 12:32 pm

Hello all,

I have a major problem... I think i killed my pc, the specs are below:

Processor: AMD Phenom II 965

Processor Interface : Socket AM3

Memory: Major Brand 4gb DDR2 800 PC6400 CL6.0 Memory Module

Hard Drive: Branded 1tb Sata 7200rpm 16mb Cache HDD

Graphics Card: GTS 250 1gb

Motherboard: Asrock K10N78 Full HD-HSLI AM2 5200MT/S Nvidia 8200 Chipset SKT AM2

Max Memory Support: 16gb DDR2 1066

Motherboard Expansion Slots: 1x PCI-E 16x, 1x PCI-E 1x, 2x 32-bit PCI

Power Supply: Branded 450w 24Pin Power Supply Unit

Thought i was updating the bios to work better with my new CPU (which was working perfectly should have left it as it was) but the item I downloaded from the offical ASrock website seems to have killed my pc!!

While there is no smell of burning and all fans, lights, dvd (open and close) are working, there is no signal to my monitor, and while the main power switch works the restart button doesn't?! and there doesn't seem to be booting up going on. Tried the jump think with the pins no change and did the CMOS battery think no joy... what the hell have I done?!?! and what can i do to get it running again?!?

Thanking you all in advance!! with every thing crossed!!

The BIOS on my ancient Gigabyte Motherboard is as old as Methuselah, but the thought of getting an error during a BIOS upgrade? installation and making my Motherboard totally unusable is something I wish to avoid!... :-[...!

The BIOS Data in the BIOS Chip can be corrupted.

If the old BIOS works OK, I leave it well alone... :)...!

Paul...Basic Input/Output System... 8-)...!

..of all the things I happily fiddle with in my computer, BIOS is the one thing I avoid messing with!... :o...!

A corrupted BIOS will prevent your Computer from booting up, and nothing will work.
The motherboard becomes useless.
The BIOS installation readme warns you of this danger.

I don't know what you can do now!

Paul.

...time to die/cry?... ::)...!

I doubt it very much.
The BIOS Chip on your Motherboard has a totally different pin-out, and cannot be removed or inserted without special tools.

I suspect that you will need some sort of recovery program (on Floppy Disk) to start the computer up in DOS to allow you to recover/install the original BIOS!

...and pray...

Have a word with your local Computer specialist.

Paul.

Note: You will not be ably to start up in "Safe Mode" as you cannot get past the BIOS Boot-up sequence.

...should've gone to Specsavers!... ;)...!

Have a word with you local Computer specialist Shop.

They may offer some advice on a Floppy Disk recovery program to get DOS up and running again to allow you to download and install the correct BIOS program again... ;)...!

I flashed my BIOS to upgrade from a 9500 Phenom to an X4 940 on the same board. Trashed the original Gigabyte AM2 motherboard-- I got nothing-- just a blue-black screen of arrogant defiance. $350 later, I have a new Asus AM3 board, the 940 is in, paid my computer guru to do the job and it works fabuloso. Moral of story: Money fixes all computer problems...

Had exactly the same issue with my PC, but if you left it power off for about 7 hours it would then boot fine. It was a mobo capacitor issue and replaced the mobo on warranty.
