Hoping to get this laptop after basic. should have enough by then to atleast get payments started. or if all else fails i can get a loan from the good ole bank of mom and dad

I don't know a whole lot about laptops but.....

I think 8 gigabytes of RAM is overkill, 4 gigabytes might save you some money without any drop in performance.

(Unless the programs you're running specifically need 8 gig?)

You could get something faster but for 1/4th the price if you bought a desktop computer. Also make sure to look at laptops by other companies because apparently there are cheaper ones that have similar specs to the ones you posted.

I agree.
Other places will have specs that will be the same, maybe lower for a lot less.
Personally though, if you want, you can custom build yours.
I always recommend custom builds.
You get exactly what you want, to do what you want, for less.
Plus what I like about custom building is the fact you know what you can upgrade to from the start,
I.E if you buy a pre built, sometimes you do not know what motherboard they use, so you have to research it, then sometimes that motherboard only works with "their" parts.

But custom building has a downside too...
No customer support.
(By that I mean if a part breaks, you have to worry about getting an RMA, or if your having problems with the computer you have to learn how to fix it)

But just remember, the price tag you pay for prebuilts is higher because of the support and labor required to build it for you.

i'd love to get a desktop instead but i 'll be moving around ALOT in my first 2 years so i dont want the hassle of having to always take it with me

Im not sure about building my own laptop. built a few of my desktops though. and time is a big issue. i remember alot of trouble shooting and installing EVERYTHING building my desktops. dont think im gunna have as much time to build one right now.

Buy a ASUS G60JX-RBBX05 from BestBuy.  Look up the specs, pure awesomeness.  Awesome i5, GeForce 206M, 4Gb of RAM...

Higher resolutions decrease framerates because the computer has to draw more. Personally I think anything under 1920*1080 looks garbage.

Not on a 16-inch screen.  It looks beautiful.  Even 1440x900 on my 17-inch looks great.

Go the i7 asus laptop ordered!!. sad thing is it wont get here before i go to basic . best part is its costing me nothing . parents got it and called it an early graduation from basic present so i'll have to post some screenies when i get out of basic and get a chance to play with it
