Boot Error

Postby JakesF14 » Tue Jan 05, 2010 2:48 am

I,ve plugged out my PC when I went on holiday for 3 weeks, and when I came back, plugged it in, and started it up, it gave me a message that the bios clock needs to be reset. anyway, I went into the BIOS setup, reset the bios to fail safe defaults, and boot the PC up (XP Professional) It starts normal, but restart itself, after a minute or so, and sometimes it wont boot up, just giving 3 long beeps, pause and 3 long beeps, pause and so it carries on. When I turn it off for a while (hour or so), it starts again. I checked, the CPU temp is not above average I think 45 deg C.  I dunno what to do, so if someone could help, It is a Gigbyte GA-M61PME motherboard with 3 Gig dual core CPU

Thanks,

Jakes

I'm pretty sure that my Gigabyte BIOS is way out of date by now...according the the revision numbers....

...but of all the things that I am willing to do with my computer(s), including total rebuilds, anything to do with upgrading or messing with the BIOS is something I avoid like the Plague!.... :o....!

If anything goes wrong during the installation, etc, the whole Motherboard is trashed....(the BOIS Chip Data)..... :'(...!

The thought of attempting it scares me to death!...... ;D...!

Fortunately, the system seems to work OK...so I leave well alone!.... :-*...!

Hi Jakes f14,

With you having not run the PC for a few weeks, the bios backup battery may be low, it could be a rechargable one but could be one you can replace.

Have a look at you mem sim slots, reseat the dimms.

Before removing anyboards where you haven't cleaned the pc out for a while could cause you problems, any dust buildup around the slots will fall in at the exact moment you take the cards out :)

Your fans are running arn't they?
Monitor the temp you mentioned upto the point it reboots.

Steve
