Wanting to upgrade GPU

Well right now I am using a 512 mb Sapphire 4830 HD card, and I think it is about time I start looking into an upgrade.
Right now I am using a Foxconn A74MX-K mobo.

Now I am thinking about going nvida this time since I hear so much good things about them.
Plus they seem to have more variety at lower prices.
So what are some cards you would recommend.

How much money are you willing to spend?
If you're intending on mainly using your GPU for FSX, I would recommend NVIDIA, but for other games as well, you can also try ATI.
Also, if you could find out the wattage of your PSU that would be a great help.

oh ya, I am using a 650 W PSU( ithink) or its a 600 W will check in a sec.
But I am wanting to try not to spend to much... like less than $150 because I am upgrading my RAM in a month. The GPu will come after that

Well I'm more of a Nvidia guy, so at those prices I might look at a GTS 250, 9800 GTX+ or a GT 240.
GTS 250 will be the most powerful NVIDIA card under $150 I think.
I really can't say about ATI cards to be honest.

I wouldn't have thought there'd be any difference moving from a 4830 to one of those cards to be honest.
Out of that list, I'd go for the 9600GT 1gb version.

HI, from all those i would go with 8800gt (oc if you could find one).Believe me it destroys the competition.
Its an AMAZING card at a wonderful price, try BFG or EVGA.
I have the 8800 gt 0c 512 from BFG and its AMAZING on fs9 (i havent try on FSX)

The 8800GT / 9800GT are about the same as the 4830.

The 9600GT is significantly slower than the 4830.

It would be a massive waste of money getting either.

Honestly, for $150 you're not going to get something much faster than your current 4830. Wait a few months till Nvidia moves to a new manufacturing process (i.e. faster cards for cheaper). That, or pay more for a Nvidia GTX 260 216, GTX 275, ATi 4870, ATi 5770, or ATi 5850.

It would be nice to know what model power supply you have before getting a new graphics card.

And how much do the new nvidia cards cost when they come out nomrally?
I know ATI is too expensive for me when newer models come out

You know, this is very, very random, but there is a saying that was created by the co-founder of Intel.

"A computer gets twice as smart every 24 months."

How chip-sets and other components are made nowadays, the advances allow for technology to become cheaper and faster every 2 years or so. No, depending on how you take this and when the 24 month time span should start, should be up to you, but I would wait a little bit and see if some newer GPU's come out that will be worth it. Not only will the ones mentioned become cheaper, but you may also get something twice as good for the same price in the long run. Just a little tip I guess.

2. Different graphics cards are designed to fill different market segments, such as enthusiast, mainstream, and entry. Some cards might be $50 when they are released, others might be $600 when they are released, depending on how powerful it is, and what market segment it is aimed at. When the new Nvidia graphics card are released, then there will likely be one in your (or any) price range. This applies to Nvidia and ATi.

3. Different graphics cards generally perform differently in different applications. From what I understand, Nvidia generally performs better than ATi, but only in FSX. There are exceptions, for example, an ATi 5870 will obviously be faster than an 8800GT, even in FSX.

4. The newest ATi cards are already released, and can be found for a relatively respectable price, such as the Radeon 5750, 5770, and 5850. However, they are having production issues that makes them hard to find, or more expensive than they might be when production /supply issues are worked out. Also, ATi generally releases cheaper cards than Nvidia.

5. I recommended you to wait, because at the moment, for $150, you are not going to be able to purchase anything that is a significant step-up from your 4830 unless you pay more.
