Yeah, I wanted XP 64 but they only had Vista 64.
My flight sim rigs have always been solely dedicated to the sim. Nothing else is rarely loaded into it and everything is pretty much shut down. So hopefully the issues with Vista will not surface as I will go through all the steps to kill all the features that I will not be used. My flight sim rigs have always been like a car with just a seat and the motor to run it! No stereo, floor mats or fuzzy dice hanging from the mirror. I am sure it will be fine and looking forward to it!

Impressive system, it looks like a real beast. Are you going to be squeezing some more power out of that CPU?

Get acquainted with Vista Dave..   the FSX.cfg file is not located in the same place as it is in XP.

Make sure you are running as full admin.. as I posted in the email do not install FSX into VISTA program files folders as no matter what you do to turn off UAC and other nanny features the Nazi OS still monitors and controls anything executed from the program files folder... and DO make sure you set the permissions on the FSX install folder to FULL ADMIN before installing FSX to the 2nd drive

Ive been using Vista 64 for 6 months now running FSX. There is nothing wrong with this OS system, it runs like a charm. There is alot of Vista and FSX Bashing going around the net. It is not nearly as bad as people make it out, as a matter of fact, its nearly perfect. Not once have I had a bad experience with Vista 64

You made an excellent choice
Gigabyte EX58A-UD5 V2.0
Core i7-980X
OCZ 12GB PC312800
GTX 480
800watt PSU
FSX SP2
Win 7 64-bit

Most people would not know a good running FSX system until they actually see it in compare to what they think is good

I have all the OS's installed, including the latest build of Windows7

I know the pitfalls and the upsides to all of them

None of them run or look better in FSX than XP x64, none

MS had to cut Aces directly because of Vista and its inability to overtake XP where it counts... oh, yes it does allow better perf with AV production.. no argument, but in just about every other aspect the only advantage Vista allows is DX10 and that was how they got it as far as they did in the 3D world.. which was not far enough to save MS from having to cut back for the first time in history.. and that cut was not because of the economy it was due to real sys admins knowing BS when they see it.

I do not BASH something that does not deserved to be bashed.

This is a MSFS site.. it if was a Adobe Premere or VEGAS site or I would of course reccomend Vista over XP.

but to be quite honest.. anyone looking to use AV tools would be much better served on a MAC

LOL
