Ahhh, the Compaq IPAQ. I had one for a while (VERY SHORT while). I think there are two ways to go here. If I'm not mistaking, the problem is related to drivers. (unless the keyboaed and mouse are faulty) You might try to find the original restore disks for this model on Ebay or some such site, or you may be able to download the drivers from HP's site and make a (I forgat what it's called) slip-streamed XP install disk.

Have you tried to boot into safe mode and log in as administrator?

Thanks, but the thing is a dead ringer now.

The mpment I start it up it says "p0wer-on password" & there is no way to get to the bios setup, & no way to get the cd in the drive to boot.

I think I'll bin it.

Depends on the mainboard, but there might be a Bios Reset Jumper....

Do you have the handbooks? Pull it out, put it in and the Bios values are all set on factory defaults. And the pasw. might be gone.

Called the hotline already?

Cheers,
Fabian

managed to open the box, rather difficult, & recycled the battery which got rid of the password.

The XP install that was halted came back, BUT unable to get the USB keaboard to work so XP halted there again.

Thanx for trying to help, will post again.

It might be a good idea to boot a pre-installation enviroment like Bart PE first and to check, weather it recognizes your USB-Keyboard. Also you could check the Bios. On some machines there's a USB for DOS support function you'll have to enable.....

OK again, problems SOLVED so far.

managed to get the USB mouse/keaboard to work & completed the XPsp2.

Connected on the Net on its own.

Its an iPack PC 700, Intel Celeron 699mhz CPU, 512 mb RAM, 9gb Maxtor HD, 6 USB sockets & CD drive.

It should be a usefull PC at the Old Peoples Home to pass their time.
