tune FSX and be aware your processor speed is not what I would call high end

Use this list to set up FSX and the config

Thanks nick I'll give it a go. I use active sky for my weather, am quite impressed with the clouds and skies :)

On another note, and this may well be completely unconnected but since doing your XP tweaks all my games have a slight stutter every 3-4 seconds, a bit annoying its even doing it in toca3 which was running smoothly before. Any ideas?

Cheers!

That has nothing to do with the tweaks I posted assuming you did them correctly and you dont have programs running at Windows boot causing the problem...  AV's and other scanners can do it as well as too many boot programs

How is this all installed, on one hard drive and one big partition?

Active Sky 6 is just a weather engine (unless you purchased some texture package with it) and can be used with what I posted too

Get yourself a VelociRaptor (the come in 150 and 300GB) for your sim

do not partition it

You may be having drive problems and yes, what you could be seeing is storage related stutters

I always run my OS and installed programs (other than performance programs like MSFS) on one drive and the perf games on another

I'll see what I can sort. I'm losing the plot now I seem to have aqquired a bloody spybot thats popping up ads all the time. Dont think I can afford a veloci raptor drive at the moment, will see what else comes up. Thinking of a clean install now, seem to be going backwards rather than forwards  :-[

Ok.. Help! I'm totally unable to shake this bloody virus/malware, have tried AVG, Avast!, Malware Bytes, Spyware Doctor, Ad-Aware et al. The main problem is I cannot update the programs, as if the malware is blocking the programs from updating. Its really dragging my system down now, bar from a format/re-install what can I do?

Thanks

There is nothing I can do for malware and bugs.. I think you should backup, bite the bullet and clean install.. this tim buy NOD32 and use Spybots Search and destroy and you should be fine

Ok thanks nick, I'm going to bite the bullet and buy a faster hdd and do a clean install, can you recommend the bext XP to install? I have noticed an sp3 xp doing the rounds, would this be worth bothering with or should I just go for the sp2 32 bit?

Thanks

Well I have bought a 150 gig velociraptor, done a clean install, done the mods, am malware free and still running poorly, as low as 8fps on approach using the uk2000 airports bundle.

The stutter has gone though  ;D

I am using with AA on though as the game looks very rough without it and it seems to make bugger all difference to the fps!

I am using the Nhancer too and have set it as per nick's instructions..

Any more ideas? I am very close to giving up with flying the sim  :-[
