Internet?

Postby Mazza » Wed Jan 28, 2009 12:48 am

Okay since i have gotten my new system i have noticed that the internet is very slow compared to my old system, but my new system in cabled up to the router, while my old system is on a pci 54Mbps wireless card :-?

I can not take the old card as my motherboard only has 1 PCI-E 2.0 slot and 2 pci slots, as my Graphics card has a dual slot heatsink. And the Graphics card would be blowing hot air right on the Network card :D
That is abit bad :D

So why is the net slower!? :-?

the network card is on the inside of the case as is the graphics card. As you know :P. The graphics card does not blow into the case. it sucks the air from the inside of the case and blows it straight out the back. It shouldn't be a problem to stick your wireless card back in.

Bout your net going slow no idea

First, make sure you have installed the latest drivers for your NIC (assuming it is an onboard NIC, check your MB web site for the latest.)

Second, give this a try: http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php (first item.)

If that does not do it, I have one more item to try, but need to know your router model. Or, if you know that it is capable of 100mbs full duplex, try setting your driver to that specifically.

First, since when do videocards blow air downwards? Got a picture of your card?

Second, it doesn't matter if hot air gets blown onto the network card. It won't do anything.

I'd put the old network card back in and use that.

Hm ok it's difficult to tell.

As long as the network card fits and doesn't constrict airflow to the card i think you'd be ok.

I think it would, as the card is full width  :-/

If you can't get the network card to work, buy a Wireless USB Adapter. If you do get one, make sure the model will work well with your router and OS. I have a Linksys WUSB100 (Wireless-N 54mbps) and it works great! No problems at all except for maybe the software crashed once or twice.
