Tuning Tweeking new rig

Postby dvpro » Sun Jan 11, 2009 4:20 pm

Hi all,

It's been a labor of love to get into this forum...for the last month and a half the registration process would not work as my IP would not allow emails from here....(hate Time Warner). But Pete got back to me and got me straight....thanks again Pete!!

So I am just like alot of the others here, wondering which system to buy...how to clock it up...how to test things.....gefrag things...it's endless. I have spent hours upon hours reading this site as I realize the info I am wanting to know about is all here.

Before the questions of how to do this and that...blahh blahhh...I guess I find it pretty cool that there is a guy that apparently knows more about computers than all my former professors did in Engineering College. I am amazed of Nicks knowledge and the serious detail of very complex process and proceedures. It's obvious that all/most of this flight simming stuff is fairly simple for him...I'd like to see the results of a real challenge.

And upon reading...and reading I think I actually know a member on here. Could SubZero be a former Gaucho? I hope so, he is a really cool guy!! He might also remember me picking up his TWR/GND as JX

So call that my little intro, just without the me part as I didn't see a section for that on this board.

So I was wondering about my little experiment last night...well 3A.M.

I am not done setting up my new rig as far as add ons go. I mainly fly lvld 763, but will be getting the Arian 739 and maybe some PGDM stuff....as well as some tex/scenery but I haven't really made up my mind. Nick made it very clear to clock LAST...after everything is installed and fragged. (before I forget) There is a defrag software that has multiple versions or something. Is that program to be usef for Vista 64? Or am I to just use the windowes defrag?

So I wanted to mention what I did last night and get a little feed back.
Dram freq @1600
UCLK 3200
Dram bus vt @ 1.6
QPI/Dram @ 1.35 vt.

First four:
(cl) 8
8
8
24

These settings seem stable although I only ran cpu-z to make sure the changes took...and it's a little odd:

Dram freq: 803.8 (last digit is dynamic)
FSB:FRAM

Just let me know your "home sick" rate and I'll gladly cut you a check in the morning ;)

Seriously, THANK YOU.

I was hoping one of the many guys on here that are more knowledgable could answer my silly question....it's appreciated.

The memory I bought is: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145224

I will up it again and see if it wants to remain stable. And I do it in the bios...not the SW.

Go take some Theraflu...you're alot nicer than I when I have the flu. My wife will barley speak to me when I am sick...again, thank you.

edit:
Oh, do you know if there is a thermal diode within the sticks? Is that something I care about?

There is no thermal sensor on consumer grade memory product

Someone else here I think is running that same memory at 1T so you can try it in a clock but its unstable you may need to set it back to 2T and in a clock you must also raise Vcore

How high Vcore goes depends on how high the clock and if you have good CPU cooling. 80c as read in RealTemp 2.90 is the max under a FULL CPU load

Also, DISABLE CPU HT or HyperThreading
Now do keep this in mind... you only need DRAM 1.65 and QPI/DRAM at 1.35 if you intend to clock, otherwise that can come down to DRAM 1.62 and QPI/DRAM to 1.25

Opppss.. that may be 1.30 QPI/DRAM if not clocked

It varies with the memory product. Some run a very low QPI and others tend to run it hotter

Ok, a Gaucho is a UCSB (Santa Barbara) thing. His name is Andy and I thought he moved back to Tampa area...owell!!

Your question about O&O defrag is yes it can be used on vista 64 but be sure to get Version 8.6 or 11 because these are the only versions compatible to vista. Here is a thread created by Nick to tell you how to optimize your system and on his third post on how to use O&O defrag.
