64 bit XP

Postby vgbaron » Tue Dec 30, 2008 12:57 pm

Just ordered a copy of 64bit XP Pro - since I'm waiting for a replacement mobo and I'll be ripping my system apart, thought I might also upgrade to XP64.

If I decide to do it, it will be on the Q9650/Rampage Extreme/Corsair Ram/GTX 280 system.

Any hidden pitfalls to be aware of? Any o/clock issues? Printer has 64bit drivers available.

I'm assuming I'll have to reinstall *ALL* my software.

Main question - as related to FSX and general computing ( I do nothing heavy like editing, etc) will it be worth the trouble?

64bit OS PREP

Everything will look exactly the same as 32bit EXCEPT you will have 2 PROGRAM FILES folders.

C:\Program Files

C:\Program Files (x86)

All

Thanx for that, Nick!

I'll start getting all my ducks in a row for this. Especially the install order for FSX/ ACCEL and GEX, UTX and landclass sandwiches, etc.

Think I'll install the new mobo (when it arrives) as is and make sure everything is stable before venturing into XP64.

That will give me time to get all the cd's etc.

Wonder if there's a 64bit O&O 8.6 around or must it be v11?

Have a safe and happy new year!!

Still looking forward to seeing you in March if you can make it down!

Vic

ALL O&O versions are avilable in 64bit

something you needs to start looking at when you purchase things like that now are if it runs in x64 without requiring a x64 write. Most programs do, some do not

stay AWAY from version 10

Your 8.6 key should work in both the 32 and 64 bit version... simply make SURE to move the download version bulet from 32 bit to 64 bit

There is no perf advantage to using 11 over 8.6
