Is my Dvd Drive dead?

recently  i tried to  install my fsx again on my computer. worked fine last time but now the dvd drive doesnt seem to pick it up or read it. i can hear it spinning and running up but nothing comes up and it freezes my computer when i try to click on the dvd. works SOMETIMES with cod4. and  anything i put in the cd drive works fine. i have another dvd reader with lightscribe should i try installing that instead?.,... and if so how would i go about putting that in so i wont screw anything up

Open it up and clean the lens using a cotton bud (Q-Tip?) soaked in some sort of alcohol/lens cleaning solution. That normally does the trick

ok ty i'll give it a try hadnt thought about that.. do live in a dusty dirty area
