9600 to 8800?

Postby Mazza » Sun Sep 21, 2008 11:15 pm

Is a 9600 better for gaming or the same or worse than a 8800?

As the 9600 is alot cheaper i'm have a tight budget it seams better to buy.

Any one got anything to say?

Or an 9500 and 9400

The 8800 is better that the 9600. Most people suggest to go for the 8800 Ultra, then the GTX, then the GT.

As a guide in the nVidia numbering system. The first number is the series, the second is the level or range. The higher it is, the more powerful it is. Also the letters mean something too. a GTX is generally better than the GT and an Ultra is better than both.

So even though the 9600, 9500 and 9400 are in a higher series, their ranges and power are all lower than the 8800 thus why they are cheaper.

Hi,

I have both. When I swiched to the 8800GT(got a last one at Best Buy for $159) the improvement was visually apparent immediately. Use the 174.74 drivers sugested by Nick N.

P5B MB, 2Gb Ram, XP Home, 6600 O/C to 2.79, all tweaks suggested by Nick N applied.

24" Gateway DCDi monitor @ 1920x1200. Frames locked at 24, followed test plan suggested by Nick N for another fellow to arrive at my best settings.

Definite 8800. Better yet a 8800 GT or GTX. ;)

Your Radeon is AGP...

EDIT: Just noticed you plan to acquire an Asus SLI mobo..be VERY careful if you overclock (its more than just pushing the FSB rate up you know) the CPU, because some boards don't support o/cing.

Its not just, "I will get a new CPU, relatively low in power, but cheap, I can O/C it."

mmmh then i might get the Asus P5KPL-cm. The BIOS as a O/C helper ro something. you tell how much more Mhz you want out of your CPU and it will overclock it for you :D

P.S: Will A P4 Duel fit in a Asus P5KPL-CM. i checked the details but it does not say of it will :-/

P.S.S this looks good http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_sp ... F&class=mb  ;D

The P5N-SLi motherboard does support O/C. Check it out: http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3& ... odelmenu=1
And it's good in price ;)
