Laptop Screen Problem

Postby MrRooney » Sun Jul 20, 2008 8:43 am

I know its unusual for me to actually post a help question in here but here it goes...

On friday night i was in the middle of typing an Letter of Complaint to Fushitsu-Siemens and Currys due to having nothing but trouble with the laptop that i bought....
Halfway through the letter the screen went black and after i'd manage to restart it it would power on but had no display..... I left it for a couple of hours and it started working again then all of a sudden it went again and i get the same problem...

I've looked at the motherboard and run diagnostic tools on it, and i've looked at the invertor as a possible problem (not sure if its that or not) but i've also checked the screen and i can't find any faults with that (so far).

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Might be the backlight. When you boot your machine, have a lamp nearby, and watch the screen very closely. If the backlight IS failing/has failed, you should still be able to make out the screen contents, though they would all be in shades of black.

Little update, i've took the laptop apart, I have changed out the memory, hard drive and the processor from a spare working machine and it is still completely dead :(

looks like i'm gonna have to visit Currys  Comet or PC World and look at getting another laptop

Have you checked the cables to the display?

sorry to bump this.....

turns out the entire motherboard has gone on the laptop and has took the screen out with it, just checked the memory and hard drive out on my mums and they seem to be working so... at least they can be used for spares on her's if required.
