PSU failure or CPU overheating?

AT 103 degrees C I would say they you are well on the way to destroying your Processor!... :o...!

The first thing I would check...>>>>

Have you had a look to see if the Processor Cooling Fan is working?....

...disconnected?....burnt out?...seized up (needs oiling)?...

Is the heat sink firmly clipped to the Processor?

Your Processor wont last long running at those temperatures...!

Assuming those temps are correct then that is why it is shutting down, overheat

    Yes, I tried to dwelve into the overclocking arena but gave up some time ago. I used the nvidia overclocking tools which has the nvidia monitor and a 3D GUI (which is just to posh for my tastes) 8-)
Well. I was sure to reset those settings and remove anything I may have changed but i will check again. Hopefully I can access what i need before it turns off on itself. Can I make these changes in my BIOS? I also run linux and I have the same problem with that....So I think it may be a BIOS hardware issue.
The fans seem to be fine and i did a check of all components. Managed to tidy up the cable organization as well!
Anyone have any ideas of where to start?

Actually, I'd turn it on, and then when it fails to POST, unplug the PSU, undo the case, and then feel for myself (100 degrees isn't unbearable).


If nothing works, those components should work fine, and my friend actually had the same problem, he just RMA'd the motherboard cause it was still under warranty. The problem was solved.

...well to my way of thinking...
100 degrees Fahrenheit is a bit uncomfortable when sitting outside in the Sun...

...whereas, 100 Degrees Centigrade is the boiling pint of water....

...sufficient to boil my Eggs for Breakfast, and for me, a trip to Hospital with 1st degree burns!... ...!

I reckon the Processor is due for an emergency trip to Hospital... ...!

Oh, 100 degrees C....



start it up for 5 seconds then pull the plug and feel it, it can't get that hot in 5 seconds unless you have a faulty motherboard, which is sending too much voltage to the CPU I would be thinking, causing the overheats.

all he probably needs is to check and reapply a new film of Thermal paste.

Thanks guys! I've managed to reapply thermal paste and re-tighten that heatsink. Now I'm sitting on 46*C.

Now, For the new problem....
Whenever I use a video application or FSX my system goes to BSOD. Gives me one code: "STOP: 0X0000008E" and all that phsyical memory dump which halts on 70%. Ive checked my device manager. Seems like theres no problem. Tried defragmenting, and installing new updates. And the Temps are all good. So whats this now?

This isnt limited to Windows either. My linux OS also freezes.....Bad hardware?

Try resitting your memory sticks and video card. I've gone crazy with these errors that usually occur when I mistakenly nudged a component while moving another. When all else failed I completely removed and replaced every component, from memory to floppy drives. Hope this helps.

I haven't seen a lot of cases of 8800 Ultras going down (then again, not many people have them), so if it's screwing up after you applied something to the motherboard, then I'd say it's the motherboard.
