Files are supposidly corrupt...

My friend is trying to send me some videos over MSN. They are just recordings off his phone from our Duke of Edinburgh, but when the files get to me, they will not work.

They are MP4s, I believe (some are 3GP, but the MP4 ones don't seem to like to work) and although I can play them through VLC, it just comes up with some music such as Linkin Park. My friend says the videos are working fine on his computer.

It's not just from sending them over the net either... I lent him my USB stick and again some of the video files are playing as a song.

It isnt that there is a song playlist or something backlog, because I simply don't own the songs that are playing.


I tried converting the songs via SUPER and it said they were corrupt, or there was an error with DirectShow, but it doesn't seem to be that. On Realplayer all of them are corrupt there too.



Any thoughts?

Missing codec?

Hmm... it is a thought.

I have DivX, XviD and some other 'usual' ones.


What is a good all around codec pack?

There is a handy little piece of freeware called GSpot that can identify what codecs any video file needs to play them, http://www.headbands.com/gspot/

Tonight at cadets I am trying to get the actual memory card off my friend to see if I can load it up directly from there... will try that first.

Hey, no reason to complain if the files play Linkin Park songs.. only the best Alt. Rock band ever... I'm listening to them right now... you might as well keep those "corrupt" files...  ;D

Unfortuntely I fixed them and I have to suffer the 'real music' on my computer  :P

For whatever reason they were messed up on transfer, but I got the card, plugged it in and copied them over fine.


You don't wanna see the video... you would think even more wierdly of me  ;D
