New Laptop

Postby Plugpennyshadow » Sun Jun 22, 2008 10:29 pm

I have been using a Toshiba Satellite 1415-S173 for apprx. 4 years now.  Perhaps longer.  Won't fly FSX or play WOW.  But been excellent machine for what it is.  HD conked last Dec.  Other than difficulty keeping clean and cool inside, machine has been quite reliable and useful.

Got home Friday past to find my wife had ordered two Toshiba Satellite L355-S7812s.  One for her and one for me.  I had in mind to get one with a little more horsepower and a better VC than an Intel Media brand one.  However, the wife had already opened both machines and started to tweak them using Nick's general tweak from the FSX Forum.  Can't in good faith go back and jack the dealer.  Gonna keep the machine and use it, limited VC and all.

Anyone have any recommendations or warnings about this machine?

Core 2 Duo T5550 1.83GHz, 3GB PC5300 DDR2

Thanks

By the By, I'm not looking for great gobsmacking performance out of an laptop.  "Gaming Laptop" is an oxy-moronic statement, in my opinion.

With the above system, I'm simply wondering if it will give me good service as my older one has.

Have found both good and bad and in-between reviews on the net.

The wife latched onto this particular system because it has a full keyboard with numerical keypad.  And the 17" wide-screens are nice.
