Download speeds

Postby expat » Thu May 22, 2008 3:00 pm

Not sure if this is a hardware of software question, but I am going with hardware. I am a SimV premier member (guys, the Pound/Euro against the Dollar is not doing Pete any favours, but if your where ever thinking about those extra KB's to download the ever increasing aircraft file sizes, now is the time to do it) and to that I have a question. I normally get are about 250 as an average download speed. Tonight I download a couple of aircraft and the speed started at about 2800kb's. I know it is not an indication problem because they where large files and in a few seconds I managed to download about 3MB before they after a couple of seconds dropped and stabilsed at my normal speed of about 250kb's. So my question is, how and why do I get this burst, and as I do, why is it just a burst and not sustainable.

Thanks

Matt

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

Happens quite a lot when downloading. The download will start high and then stabilise out. No idea why though!

As far as I'm aware, the speed is only capped by your OWN download speed. That's the beauty of paying for membership

I appreciate that Nick, but can you tell me why it actually happens and as it does, does that then mean it is possible to get/have those sorts of speed as a standard connection speed, but it is being regulated to a lot lower by my ISP............so that latter they can open the tap and offer me a great new deal that only costs X amount more per month  (I am a very skeptical person at the best of times) or is it the system in general not really capable of sustaining such speed for the average household?

Thanks

Matt

Matt

I bring down 10MB/s

Not megabits..   megabytes, meaning if there are no traffic bottlenecks and the server I am connected to will not restrict bandwidth, I can download a gig of data in 1 minute and 40 seconds

And my speed is considered slow by corporate and education institution standards

I am on a corporate piggy back to my ISP

You can buy any speed you would like if the ISP offers it.

Bandwidth is a commodity. It
