Can FS2004 use more than one core on a Q6600?

Postby Air-2000 » Sun May 11, 2008 2:37 pm

Hey there, i have had my new pc for a while now and read upon reading fs2004 not having multicore compatibility. I have a Quad Core Q6600 running at 2.4Ghz each. So i believe im running FS2004 only at 2.4ghz and only one core. This would most probably explain my frame rate problem which im having at the min unfortunatly.
If anybody has any advice for me then i would be thankfull.

Regards
Tim  ;)

I'm not entirely sure how all this multicore works, but I think it spreads the load over the cores but not very well and it is not very effective. Best thing to do is start fs9, go into task manager, right click fs9.exe, set affinity, and make it so only core3 is ticked. This way it will run only on that 1 core and as it is the 4th core, less stuff usually gets put on there.

I am happy to be corrected!!!

Yes, set the affinity. What FS9 does is it uses (in your case) uses 25% of each core (maximum) unlike FSX where I believe it uses 90% on the first three and 80% on the last core. FSX runs my first dual core at 100% and the second at 90%. :)
