Joystick intermittent fault only

Postby Yuey » Tue May 06, 2008 6:31 pm

Again last night. Perfect approach ILS 7R to new HKong ...A/T off, apply more to N1 and it swings to port as my joystick throttle only wants to apply power now to engine 1.

Great! That's just Great........ >:(

Made it to the gate okay with a bit of A/T minimal power (4knots) to correct the steerage swing on taxi :P

Unplug and plugin again as Microsortout Sidewinder page suggest 3 or 4 times (but a bit hard to do at 1nm out without a first officer)

Prior takeoff on this long haul and all four were okay on power to V1 using joystick throttle. -----------Annoying little gremlin usually only on landing!

A standard sidewinder which I am normally happy with and only happens on irregular basis both for two and four engine a/c.

Anybody else get that? :-?

(I cannot replace her as there are no shops and none available where I am living and working so you can understand my request)

P.S. I now save all my landings before the downwind legs.

One possibility: An errant press of the E key.

The E keypress (default assignment) sends the 'select engine(s)' command . It then waits for the engine numbers, the numbers 1 thru 4 on the keyboard top row. If it doesn't get any it assumes engine #1.

Try---press and release E then 1,2,3,4 in succession.

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.
