2 HDDs not Appearing

Postby a1 » Wed Apr 23, 2008 7:28 pm

Got Windows XP Pro installed on the C drive but the other drive is not showing up in hte drive list on the My computers. What do I do about it and how do I transfered all of my files to that drive by default?

Still new working with 2 drives. :-[

I'm slow, but are these IDE or sata? (shouldn't matter but just in case.) Did you set the jumpers on the drives? One "slave" and one "master"? Also, if the second drive hasn't been partitioned or formatted it may not show up either.

Also on some motherboards you need to change a jumper setting for extra HDs (rare but possible).

Might need to initilise them. Plus you have to create partitions before formatting.

Bingo

Go into the disk management area of Windows.. Administrative Tools - Computer Management - Disk Management

Assuming the new drive is correctly connected and the drivers are indeed installed, you should see the drive marked as UNALLOCATED. Right click and select FORMAT. Choose 4096 (4K) or Windows default as the cluster size if it asks.

Bad jumpers usually means not booting at all

Does that board have special SATA controllers besides the chipset provided ones...

What board is it by the way...

Sorry for not posting all the info. These are SATA and I haven't formatted them. Thanks. ;)
