Saitek X52 vs X52 Pro

Postby HarvesteR » Tue Apr 15, 2008 12:46 pm

Hello everyone,

i had my eye on the saitek X52 for a while now, and i'm gonna get soon (hopefully  ::))

what's troubling me is that, looking through the saitek forums, i found quite a number of people saying bad things about the Pro version, and it made me consider whether i should go for the Pro one or the standard edition

so i need an honest opinion here... should i get the x52 or the x52 Pro?

i've read that the Pro version has a tendency to stick as you move it around, while the standard one does not... is that true? or common?

my budget can fit the Pro version, so that's not an issue... if the Pro does show a true improvement over the standard edition, i'll happily buy it...

but since i don't live in the US or EU, i'll have to order it online, which means great trouble if i ever have to send it back to exchange or repairs... so i can't risk it malfunctioning

that's why i'm asking here... i know you guys have the largest combined amount of joysticks ever to be seen  ;), and most likely someone there has or had an X52 Pro and/or standard

so i need your opinion, mr. X52 owner, which one should i get?

Cheers

I own a X-52. Great stick. Now I don't know if you use FSX or FS2004 but to my knowlegde the extras the pro version offers don't work with FS2004. I never had any problems with my x-52. It doesn't 'stick' when you move it around, although you can feel some resistance sometimes. Nothing to make a big problem of.

I have the X52-Pro, and I love it. No problems with the stick here, functions perfectly, and the choice of buttons is very good. I cannot comment on the standard X52, as I have never owned one, but I can highly recommend the Pro version.

Kindest Regards,

X-52 is black, and looks well...more pro. X-52 is a bit tacky silver. X-52 has a extra spring on the stick also.

Profile thing is the most annoying, as you need to search the net for games. Saitek don't include dozens or profiles as standard. Would be useful...

ah well, profiles don't really interest me much... i could never keep track of 3 modes of buttons plus a pinkie switch...

i'll probably keep the default settings and use the mode and shift buttons for other things

if it does come to using profiles, i don't think i'd like to use someone else's settings anyhow

i'm still a bit worried about the Pro's spring mechanism... that's the part i was reading about how it tends to stick... should i stop worrying?

i gather that the saitek forum is probably only used by people who are having trouble... and it's assumable that most people who are not having trouble would have no reason to post there, right?

I have the X52 Pro, I've been using it for around 6 months now.  The look and feel are much, much better than the regular one.  Don't be concerned about any "sticking".  What's being referred to is a little resistance between the metal disk below the springs and the plastic of the base.  Very slight-I notice it but for something like this it's not a deal breaker, and I'm sure there is something around to smooth it out.  The regular one looks and feels like a toy, so in my opinion that is a bigger fault.

The X52 Pro is probably overpriced but it is THE COOLEST LOOKING joystick-throttle combo around.  It's made well and has worked to my satisfaction.

yes, the reason why i had my eye one the Pro, was that it looks a whole lot more serious than the standard one

i have played with the x52 once before (only for a short while though) and i noticed that the centering spring is indeed a bit on the loose side... and he fact that the Pro has 2 springs to increase tension was also a big plus for me

also, they say it's more precise and longer lasting, so i'm leaning quite a bit towards the pro

Cheers
