.CFG In Vista...

Postby cloud9 » Sat Apr 05, 2008 12:43 am

Why can;t I save a .cfg file in Vista.  I open it and then once I have edited go to save and it says cannot find file path please specify or whatever and I do.  Then it says can't find file path and that's it....

If this goes unsolved, it will mean no more repaints :'( :-/

Thanks in advance

If I remember correctly...to edit stuff like this you need administrator rights. Do you have them or are you the admin of the system?

Go to your contorl Panel and trun off the user accounts. Then you wont have to worry about admin right.

The other thing you can do is save the cfg. file to the desktop ane then copy and paste the cfg. file back int the folder and overwright.

Hope this helps.

Its a simple and permanent fix.  Right click on the CFG in question and go to Properties.  Then down where it says Attributes un-check Read-Only.  Problem solved, should be able to save without a problem ;)

I found that problem when transferring aircraft from my old computer to this new rig on a CD...They all came up as I couldn't save the CFG, somehow during the transfer all the CFGs ended up as Read-Only files :-/

The user accounts deal fixed it...Thank you

For some reason though it stays read-only :-? :-?

If you still want the extra protection that UAC offers you can leave it on and still edit .cfg files.

right click and select properties, and then the security tab.  click on "Edit" (choose "continue" when UAC asks) and check "Full control" for the "Users" group.

Click OK and you are done.  After you do this, you can edit that file to your hearts content and have no issues.
