Just downloaded the Intel Thermal Analysis tool, recommended by Nick in another thread. Once installed, it is showing these temps for my CPU (E6850). Note - the PC has been on for 6 hours before these temps were taken. Also, FS9 is running, along with serval files being downloaded:
Isn't that a bit low? If it's correct, does that mean a meaty over-clock could be on the cards ?
Absolutely its possible if these 2 items are true..
1. Your ambient temp is cool in the room, such as 65 degrees or so
2. The CPU is currently in a HALT state brought on by the BIOS and the power management system. Intel has programming in its processor that tells the BIOS to reduce the VCORE and the MULTIPLIER if the system is not being used, therefore the combination of the power management and the ambient temp could display such a temp.
I know nick recommended TAT to you earlier, but I've heard from other people that it doesn't always display the correct temps. I use coretemp and it seems to be very acurate for me. You may be getting 20C temps, I would just want to double check it with another monitoring utility before you overclocked.
seeing how he has confirmed the temp in another application, and, wher he lives, I would say its probably correct
the only other possibilty is the motherboard design (or a BIOS error, happens all the time) does not incorporate the correct electronics (and BIOS code) to read the intel diode correctly and in that case TAT would not read it right as any other software would not
Whats funny about that is... how does anyone know coretemp is right?
