Which settings?

Postby homebrewer » Mon Mar 03, 2008 3:53 pm

To what should I set my antarcticotropic, atherioscopic and antialiasing , et cetera settings to try and get rid of the terminal jaggies from which I am suffering? I want "airbrush quality" images on my screen. How do I get them; what must I tweak?
My system: AMD Phenom 9500 cpu, 2 x eVGA e-GeForce 8800GTS Superclocked vidcards (640Mb DDR3 each), Zalman "sunflower" 9700 fan, Gigabyte GA-M57SLI-S4 mobo, 4Gb G.Skill PC2-6400 DDR2 800Mhz RAM, 2 x Sony 20X DVD writers, Thermaltake Toughpower 8

Not knowing what to do, I went to the screen where you Create a Flight, clicked on Settings and just maxed everything in all four of the tabs. I find I get the best smoothing with trilinear filtering (whatever that is) and the screen resolution set at 1680x1050x16. I am happy, but really want to know how to get those eye-popping screenies that the SimV gods are getting...

antarcticotropic

LOL

Don't worry, it took me a few years to get that right!

Anti-Aliasing is the setting that controls jagged edges. You can turn it on in the MSFS display settings, or force it through video drivers (I Use 8x Super Sample.

There's also Anisotropic filtering, it helps textures that are at an angle appear sharp. Doesn't have much to do with jagged edges, but it's best to turn it to Trilinear in MSFS display settings then force it to x16 in video drivers.

To fix your jaggies with great performance I think you should do this:

Of course, that may not work properly because Nvidia drivers are terrible.... Nick recommends 174.12 (beta). I am using 169.02 because the beta causes probs with other games.
