ATI v Nvidia AA in FS-X

Postby Mermaid Man » Fri Feb 29, 2008 10:47 am

Can anyone post pictures of Nvidia 880GT AA in FS-X please? I have noticed a few have been complaining of jaggies. Going to buy a new card and only GT/GTS is a contender.

3870x2 is similar price to the GTX, but I think my CPU is a bottleneck (4400x2 @ 2.7ghz)

It's going to be used for other games as well, not just FS-X.

Most Nvidia drivers I've tried DID result in jaggies. Now I'm on 169.02 NON WHQL, they're drivers that came installed and are the ones that came on the CD. ::) It's all good. 8xS.

Do you have any pictures (high resolution, native not scaled down in PS) with and without the AA problem?

It's annoying ATI hasn't a

Why?

With broken drivers, Anti-Aliasing is completely OFF. With drivers that work, Anti-Aliasing is perfectly fine.

Open up fsx and turn anti-aliasing on - Boom; equivalent to fixed drivers.

Turn Anti-Aliasing OFF - equivalent to broken drivers.

It's as simple as that.

And if anyone tells you about the gound flickering in fsx with Nvidia.... there driver profiles are compeltely screwed up. Don't listen to them.

oh right. Not having a Nvidia 8800 I don't know what the exact problem is, I thought AA is working but somehow the aliasing effect is causing side effects (even though working)

Got a ATI x1900xtx you see. But I guess if I run native 1920x1200 (24") I don't need AA, so I can replicate this with ATI...so the Nvidia AA FS-X is a non issue?

Does the nvidia have AA problems in other games, or is just in FS-X?

Oblivion - No.
STALKER - No (Menues would pause and take 30 seconds to do anything... eventually BSODS. Again, 169.02 fixed it).
Crysis - No.
FEAR - No.
World In Conflict - No.

I might install IL2: 1946, Battlefield 2, Half Life 2, and Lock On this week end. But from what I hear, there are no issues.

so the Nvidia AA FS-X is a non issue?

It may be a problem if drivers that work for fsx cause problems with other games. Basede on my experiance, once on 169.02 there hasn't been a single problem with any of my games that are currently installed, nor have I heard of any problems with the majority of games.

But I guess if I run native 1920x1200 (24") I don't need AA,

Larger screens still have a pixel size exactly the same as smaller ones, so if you're at the same distance from the screen you'll still be getting jaggies. Trust me, you want AA.

Personally, I wouldn't worry about Nvidias drivers.... I would go for the 8800GT or 3870x2 (Should help at your resolution). At 1920 I would expect the 3870x1 to be sluggish. Make sure to try diferant driver versions however, 169.02 may not work for you. :)
