Graphics card not recognised.. and other problems

My recent new build (see sig) has developed problems.

You need to go into Bios and turn off the onboard video adapter and set the primary display to PCIe if those options are available.

The PC seems to be picking up the onboard video as the display adapter.

Have you got the monitor plugged into the new card ...... or

The mobo (this one) doesn't have onboard graphics Congo, plus this problem happened overnight. It worked fine for 2 weeks then it showed "standard VGA adapter 16mb" whilst the monitor was still connected through the graphics card,the display was very simlar to when you uninstall graphics drivers... then a day later nothing. Now I can't even get it to power up, let alone get into the BIOS.
I've tried swapping PSUs as well, still nothing.

I think I'll RMA it and either get a direct replacement or an Asus.

I'm sorry, I glanced at your signature and saw a I945g board there (your laptop) and jumped a conclusion without reading your spec in detail. Please disregard the above.

If you have tried another known and working video card then perhaps it is the board. My only other suspicion would be PSU not delivering correct power, but that's a long shot.

I'd check the cables going into the GPU and see if there is anything wrong with them. Then I agree with congo it is time to check the PSU itself. Most times it is just a loose connection in the connector block however in my experience

Cheers Congo and Mark, you were both right. Problem solved.
Seems one of the wires in the connector box on the main mobo 20+4pin had worked slightly loose, a gentle push on all wires did the trick.

Saved me a red face from my supplier
