Core Temp diff in dual core

Hello,

I downloaded and installed Core Temp 0.96.1 today.  My cpu is an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ (Windsor)
Freq: 1002.09 MHz (200.42 x 5.0)
Socket AM2
VID: 1.1000v

My question is that core 2 runs around 10 degrees hotter than core 1.  Core 1 runs at 79 and core 2 runs at 88 to 90.  These are degrees F.

I do not have any problems with this PC, I am just wondering is it normal for one core to run that much hotter than the other, or depending on how you look at it maybe one core is running a lot cooler than the other.

My Athlon X2's have a few degrees difference, about 2-3 but not gap like in your system.

1. Use C not F... C has standards that are well know

2. For AMD you should have the latest AMD driver and the latest AMD Dual Core Optimizer so the DIODE is seen correctly in the readout

3. Some utilities can NOT read the AMD internal diode correctly.. the latest Speedfan DOES and there will be 2 temps, one for case (shell covering of the CPU) and one for internal diode of the CPU which is more accurate

Have not used coretemp for AMD as of yet however I do know the beta that was posted some time ago does address K8

CPU Support list:

All AMD K8 CPUs are supported starting with the early SH-C0 stepping and up. The latest 65nm BH-G1 and DH-G1
revisions give inaccurate readings.

Intel CPUs based on the 'Core' architecture, meaning all CPUs on the Core Duo/Solo and Core 2 Duo
architecture.


As for what is better that depends on what he wants... Speedfan will in fact control fan speed and will read the diode correctly but the user must also know how to set that up


So what is used is based on what the user needs... and verifying the software revision will indeed read the processor correrctly.. and I do know for a fact you must have the AMD software installed I posted or it may not read correctly

Well we have a difference of opinion, one for Speedfan and one for Coretemp.

Anyway, I got Speedfan and it does not show temps for both cores while Coretemp does.  Or if it will show both temps then I do not know why it is only showing one temp on my PC.  Speedfan is giving me temps for CPU, Ambient, Remote, HDO, Temp1 and Core

Any comment(s)?

CoreTemp goes into a loop on Vista 64.. and SpeedFan isn't accurate for Q6600s

you must set the 13-15c offset for each core for SF based on the intel tool TaT which shows your stepping model's offset and true diode temp

Like I said, SF is a pain, but the best for fan control + readout

I use Everest and am interested how accurate all of these temp monitors are.. or does it depend on your sensors?
If you can remember, on my last but one PC my sensors were "upside down", my CPU temp was reading as my chipset temp and vice-versa..

Unless I'm misunderstanding... Everest reads alll your info... (board, CPU, etc) then configures and calibrates itself.

can you explain?

I downloaded Speedfan v4.33.  When I go to the configure tab there is a check in K8, none of the other boxes say anything about CPU.  There are two core temps shown and when I go into the configuration tab it shows one core temp as K8 and the other core temp as my nvidia video card.

Thanks for your response and patience Nick, I downloaded the latest AMD processor driver and dual core optimizer and I guess that these just run on their own since they do not show up as programs in the list of programs?

Also I expanded K8 in SpeedFan and it lists Speed 01 and Speed 02, it does not list core 1 and core 2.
