Just do what I did, spend roughly a $1000 dollars and then overclock the hell out of everything ;D

Also, if you do get something soon, get a mobo with 45nm support, and an e8400. Dual core at 3.0ghz stock and many people have hit 4ghz with ease. Ive seen upwards of 4.6 for that chip. Also its only like $239 or something like that. Also the q6600 will be dropping in price to.

I found the q6600 @ 2.4GHz over at newegg for $275. And then I could overclock it to 3GHz or higher if I get a fan/heatsink or water cooling system. I think the fan/heatsink would be the one that would ccost less.

Na, this isn't something that I'm getting soon. ;D
Didn't you use some things from your old computer when you built your computer?

Sadly, nothing  is left in the new one from the old one, ended up gettin a new PSU etc. But. for $800 I had gotten

XFX 680i Mobo
q6600 (oc to 3.2 ghz, stable at 3.6 but I run it 24/7 at 3.2
Zalman heatsink
Antec 900 case
OCZ reapers
WD Raptor 150gb HDD

The add another 100 for the OCZ 700w PSU. So about $900

I do have 2 8800gt(s) however but I'm not going to include those because other options, possibly faster, probably completely different from these (and cheaper with the die shrinks) will be available for processors and graphics cards.

You don't need to spend $3000 or anywhere near that for a gaming PC. I just built my computer this past weekend and these are my details:

CPU: Intel Q6600 @2.4 GHz OEM
CPU Cooling: Thermaltake Silent 775D w/ Tuniq TX-2 compound
Motherboard: XFX 680i LT SLI
Graphics: EVGA 8800GTS 512 @ Stock Speeds
Memory: 2GB OCZ SLI DDR2 800MHz Dual Channel
Hard Drive: Seagate 7200RPM SATA 16MB Cache
Optical: Lite-On 20X Lightscribe IDE DVD burner
Monitor: Acer 20" Widescreen 1680x1050, 5ms LCD
Sound: Onboard
Input: Basic Logitech Keyboard and HP Optical Mouse (from old PC)
Case: Xion Onyx Black w/ Blue LED Gaming Case
Other: 65 in 1 multi-card reader & an old floppy drive

Total Cost: ~$1200 USD Shipped

I searched primarily newegg.com and tigerdirect.com. Got some deals, and sales.  Also the case was a gift. Just shop smart and you can find something that suits you.

This configurations runs anything I have thrown at it so far maxed at 1680x1050 resolution without any hitches except with crysis and fsx.  FSX will run on the "Ultra High" settings just fine, but If I max out all of the settings it does slow down. crysis runs on a mixture of High and Very high in DX10 mode at 1280x1024 with no filters.

Even when faster hardware comes out there will always be hardware at each price range. 6 months from now there will be new hardware out, but there will still be a $250 GPU and a $CPU.  My point is for $1000-$1500 you will always be able to get a pretty awesome PC.

Aren't the Nvidia based motherboard ....a bit rubbish? The IP35 seems quite highly rated.

If you're getting a 8800GTS you really need something more than a 19" (1280x1024?) A 20/22" 1680x1050 would be ideal. Or if you have to use a 19", get a 8800GT.

Fighter25:
I Built the PC myself. I ordered all of the parts from either newegg.com or tigerdirect.com. I suppose my saying 1200 shipped might have been misleading, but I was lumping together the shipping costs of all the individual components.  My actual value was something like $1167 before I included shipping costs.

CD:
I didn't have to worry about the cost of the operating system because I already had a Vista disc from my laptop.  I suppose you could add ~$150 for vista home premium upgrade (yes you can install it without a previous operating system  ;)) and be alright.

Mermaid Man:
My 680i installed just fine, and I haven't had any of the issues that I've read in some peoples reviews.  I read once somewhere that about 80% of all RMA for DOA products were due to static damage by the user. I was really careful to ground myself before I touched anything, and I had no issues.
