Have you connected the PCI-E video power connector?

It came with one but I'll be damned if I know what to do with it  :o  I'm guessing by the name it goes to somewhere in the power supply?

The instructions don't even mention to use it.  They said just pop out the old card and put in the new one.  Tah-Dah! You're done!

You need a power supply with videocard PCI-E outputs. You didn't need one before because the 2400 runs off the main board power. But gaming cards need power direct from the PSU.

What PSU do you have?

If your PSU doesn't have PCI-E power you can use 2x Molex to PCI-E, although this isn't as good as it's not dedicated rails. Also if yours is a weedy PSU but need something better.

The graphics card came with one of these:

Obviously I have no idea what I'm doing here.

You need to buy a new PSU. That unit is incapable for a quad core,  8800GT system. Look into a 550W Corsair.

Do not power your system back up, I can tell you what to do with that item you linked to in the image , but it's best to just replace your PSU and that'll come with dedicated videocard PCI-E cables.

300W is ok for a older system, or a Shuttle but not yours. More expense :-D

I went out and bought a 500w power supply and hooked up the graphics card.  Works fine.  I pumped some of my settings up to ultra high and had some serious frame rate issues on 1280x768.  I pretty much have to play on high settings for everything, some medium high.

I have GEX and UTX installed and it looks better (I see a lot more buildings and such), but I was expecting much better.  I still see a lot of jagged edges and blocky trees/buildings.  I guess my expectations were just ridiculous, but for some reason I was expecting to play ultra high settings for most everything AND 1680x1050 resolution.  Is that completely unrealistic?

Is there anything I can do to show my frame rate while I'm flying?

actually i guess I have to retract some statements.  I played the sitka landing and it looked crazy amazing.

Still, though, should i realistically expect to be able to play on the highest resolution with the highest settings?

Delete fsx.cfg, it will be rebuilt, then open up fs10 and turn up resolution to what your monitors designed.

Then follow the first two posts here:

You can follow the rest of the thread if you want, but that's more time consuming... but still yields results. :)

Shift-Z to show FR.

I'm a little confused.  Can I still adjust settings in the game or will that overwrite everything I did in nHancer?

Only getting between 8 and 12 fps. Ouch.

If you just did a clean install then don't worry about doing another. :)

No, that won't overwrite everything you did, and yes, you can adjust settings ingame. When you delete fsx.cfg a new one will be created next time you start the game, which gets rid of any faulty tweaks that may have been put into it.

what kind of framerate should I be targeting?  It seems that to get the same framerate as my old piece of crap video card, I have to turn down all the settings to medium high.

I am running with a frame lock of 24, and it stays at that at all times. The six pin power connector is plugged into the videocard, correct? Did you uninstall your old drivers before you installed the new ones? I'm starting to think this isn't your computer, it's somethng bugged in the operating system or a virus.

Try turning light bloom off, scenery complexity to Very Dense and Autogen to Dense with no ground shadows and water on 2.0x mid. Ai traffic off.

How does it run there?

Press Alt-Ctrl-Delete, in performance tab, what's your idle CPU usage, and page file usage?

Do you have any other games? A upgrade from a ATI 2400 to a 8800GT will be immediate difference.
