worth upgrading?  my specs inside

Postby RudeandRude » Mon Feb 11, 2008 1:56 pm

Here is my exact PC:   http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6883113044

I'm running a 2.2 Quad Core with 3 gig of ram and an Radeon ATI HD2400XT Video card, which I believe is 256MB.

Would it be worth upgrading to the 512MB NVidia 8500GT?

Thanks

ATI 2400 and Nvidia 8500 are both lousy cards, although the 8500 is slightly better. Still rubbish though, if FS-X is concerned. Nice rig.

Look into a 8800GT 512MB (not 320MB version)

the 8800 is like 250 bucks, right?  I dont have that kind of dough right now.  I'm guessing you'll say anything less than that is not worth it though.

I'll definitely see a significant difference if I upgrade to that card?

No offense but I'm partial to Barnacle Boy :)

If you're gaming then either get the 8800GT 512MB or the ATI 3850. Anything else is just rubbish (current new cards) you could get the 8800GT 256MB if you're not running at a higher resolution - 1680x1080 and above will require 512MB of video RAM.

The 2400 and ATI 8500 are just suitable for HTPC's. I hope you're not gaming with your rig, you've got a fast CPU but a slow graphics card. It's like buying a Ferrari but staying in first gear.

You will notice the difference. Well not if you're playing Return to Zork. If you're on a budget you could look for a used older generation card. My ATI X1900XTX slaughters the 2400, and you can pickup a 1900xt for about

My monitor only goes to 1680x1080 so thats as high res as I'm gonna go.

I purchased the Nvidia 8800 GT 512MB card (http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDe ... e=10007156), GEX and UTX tonight.  I think I'm ready to rock.  Gonna be a few days before the graphics card gets here, but I'm looking forward to seeing what this puppy can do.

Good thing I bought the new vid card because I downloaded GEX and UTX last night and didn't notice any kind of difference with my 256mb card.  Nothing at all.  It looked like the same exact game.

I just installed the new 8800 and when I turned the computer on I just heard a long steady beep.
