Today, I decided to add another GB of RAM (hey, I had an extra slot and the RAM wasn't maxed out yet, sooo . . .). Anyway, I unplugged everything from the case, carefully opened her up, made certain I was static free, installed the RAM, closed the case back up, plugged everything back in, and hit the power switch.
Promising sounds came from the case and my speakers (ye olde Windows boot-up music a-playing). However, the monitor remained completely dark. My pulse picked up a beat or two.
"No problem," I told myself. "Probably just forgot to plug the monitor cable back in."
A quick check revealed this was not the case. The blue plug of the monitor cable was firmly attached to the back of the case. A quick check at the other end also revealed that it, too, was secured. Now I was worried that either a connection had gone loose, or the monitor had died.
Doing my best not-panicking Darrin act, I unplugged the monitor from the desktop and plugged it into my laptop. Lo, it worked! Well, that was one question answered. Now, what was going on with my desktop, was the question on my mind.
Again, I plugged the monitor cable into the back of the case, and again the monitor remained dark. I was thinking about kicking not-panicking Darrin to the curb and welcoming full-on panicking Darrin into the flat. However, not-panicking Darrin had a last flash of un-panicked inspiration:
DUH! New video card means the video cable gets plugged into a different slot! Seems I forgot my new video card already!

Well, at least everything works snazzy like, I solved me own problem, and not-panicking Darrin and I are still on talking terms.
Laughing at myself,
Darrin.
