I was wanting to update my bios there is like 4 versions ahead but am scared lol. Is there a good tutorial that you know of wanting to reasearch before I try it. Also what happens if I screw it.

You don't wanna screw it up, that's for sure.

Usually, it's a pretty straightforward process, that is as easy as booting the pc from a floppy, and typing in the new bios version when asked to. But bad things can happen if you don't do it right.

Look for directions on the site that has you new BIOS, read them, then read them, then read them again!

Question: Is it better or worse to update the bios from inside the OS.  I ask because my mobo manufacturer gives software to update the bios from in the OS. Are there any advantages/disadvantages to doing it this way, or does it work the same either way?

Personally  I always try and update the BIOS using a floppy, now I never had an issue while using the OS, cause I never tried, but I have heard nothing but nightmares from other people.

You might have to buy a new motherboard.

Bios updates deal with issues that crop up during the life of the board.

You may or may not be experiencing those issues.

The release notes on each bios version since your's should tell you what was covered by each update. If any of those issues affect you, then you have a reason to update, if not, then there is no compelling reason to do it.

Bios updates involve a small risk that you will stuff the mainboard, that risk exists for everyone, no matter how experienced.
