issues with 8800gt and gaming

Postby pengyman89 » Sat Jan 26, 2008 11:07 am

Hey all,

I don't mean to bring this up again but for my own peace of mind; I'm having troubles with my PC and gaming. all games, big and small are freezing up my computer. the crysis demo won't play through (i saw the plane and it was done), HL2(ep1)(ep2) freeze up, even halo won't get more than a minute of gameplay (but when it does its at 100+fps).

Nick, you mentioned earlier that my PSU is what is hurting my system, but can it be blamed for all those issues or is it possible its something else. If the PSU is the cause i'm calling in an early birthday present asap to get the PC P&C 610 as was suggested to me  ;D.

the PSU for my computer is an Orion, 480W with 17A on the +12V rail.

EDIT: This is a more recent issues, before i was just noticing that the performance wasn't too much better than my old 6600gt, games were not freezing up then.

I am playing the 8600GTS on a 500W... I would get atleast 600W for the 8800GT

You'll be fine with a decent 500-550W on a 8800GT. I've used a ATI 1800XT on a cheap 430W bundled PSU and that was fine. Pretty sure the 1800XT's use power power than 8800GT's

yeah, i don't think it was the wattage that is the issue so much as the amperage. only 17A on the +12V rail. just wondering if thats what is causing the crashes on these games.
