I would go for an intel processor, intel, atleast for now, has the upper hand in performance.

Guess I should have asked the question differently - although I see w. didn't think the 8400 card offered much. I also wasn't asking for AMD vs Intel opinions as I already have decided to stay with AMD. Anyone have constructive comments on the NVidia 8500 cards? Or should I go to an 8800 series, which are still pricey here?

If you can, I'd get an 8800GT. Much better than an 8500.

An 8800 would be more worth your while, have you taken a look at the 8800gt? Probably the best bang for your buck you will find. I wouldnt expect much of anything from an 8400 or 8500. What are you looking to spend, (ideally and maximum)

OK, while I would LIKE an 8800, the best pricing around my neighborhood is in the C$280 (8800GT) area, and I was hoping to get a decent card in the C$100-150 area. Guess it's not-gonna-happen. Unless someone has something good to say about the AMD-ATI Radeon combo. ????

Thanks, milo1272. I'll look into that. Which brand name did you buy? (Asus, EVGA, etc.)
