need recommendations for a pc to run fs2004 MAXED?

I am going to get a friend to build a pc for me, but what kinda specs should i be asking for? i'd love your advice i would love to play FS2004 maxed out, or even FSX at a good level... (plus other games such as call of duty 4 etc..) can you give me some recommendations for what i should be asking for ( theres always a catch.... i'm not mega rich so please keep that in mind )?

My "new" machine may slightly exceed what's needed for that, but it's pretty modest:
Asus P5B with Intel Core 2 Duo processor (Conroe)
2GB RAM: G.Skill F26400
Western Digital 150GB SATA HDD
nVidia GeForce 7950 GT

It runs FS9 at over 40fps maxed without overclocking, although with some models flying low over dense scenery it sometimes dips to a paltry 35 or so.
I'm very happy with it, although it's not quite so good for FSX.

Take a look at my specs (in my sig). I run FS9 Maxed, including ground shadows, and get 30+ FPS, although I lock it at 25 (20 for multiplayer flights).

I could run FS9 maxed before I upgraded

512mb RAM; Radeon X1050/9550 video card (256mb)

2.2GHz AMD 3000+ Processor.

Now that I've upgraded to 2GB RAM and a Nvidia GeForce 7600GS, I'd have no problem maxing it, and getting awesome FPS! (Before I never dropped below 20, even over very graphic intensive airports)

Im using e6600 running @ 3.6ghz, 8800gtx "which you dont need" and I run everything max  and get 60+ fps but has dipped down to 35 or so in some places. Also get  25fps in fsx with it locked at 25      all settings on high

Oh, it already looks beautiful, it just doesn't run so well.
Of course, I've only played with the demo a bit with no OC'ing or tweaks and I'm running XP, so you may be right.

I have a Intel mother board Socket 478 3.2 gig mhz with hyper threading (as close as you can get to a dual core) System info states it has two CPU'S). At the moment 2 1/2 gigs DDR ram soon to go to 3 gigs ram pc3200 400 mhz dual channel, a 7600 400 MHZ OC 512 mb AGP video card and I run FS9 Maxed out and get a pretty steady 28 to 30 FPS even in the worst weather imaginable and over dense scenery in a PAYWARE A320 airbus. It runs FSX pretty good most settings are set to either dense or extremely dense but I am using quite a few tweaks and I hit around 15 to 20 FPS. I am hoping the extra ram and the fact that it is dual channel will help some what with FSX. 8-)

BAH! Bigger HD at least 200Gbs and that nVidia GeForce 8500GT WILL NOT GET YOU ANYWHERE. Although USD$200, the ATI Sapphire HD3850 512mb is in the mid of the 8600GTS and the 8800gt. I'm getting one and I can't wait cause I've heard it was phenomenal.
I don't know much about MB's so make sure that one is compatible with comes with PCIE x16 or PCIE 2.0 and your processor is compatible with it...

either get the ATI Sapphire HD3850 512mb or an nvidia 8600GTS both are good cards and are quite cheap. i have a 512 8600gts and i get around 45 to 50 FPS with everything maxed, airport scenery and 100% traffic. dont get a 8500gt i did that once, a big mistake.

also you mention you want to be able to play call of duty 4. i get 30 FPS with everything maxed at 1440x900 resolution with no lag.
