Laptop...

Postby Omag 2.0 » Sat Jan 05, 2008 4:56 am

I'm currently investigating the laptop-market. My computer is becomming a wee bit old, so a replacement is in order.
However, the misses would like a mobile one, so we can use it in the livingroom too.

Basically I'm thinking about a dell inspiron 1720

Dual core T7500 processor ( 2,2 GHz, 800 MHz FSB, 4 MB L2-cache)
2.048 MB DDR2 SDRAM
Nvidea 8600 M GT - 256 DDR2 appointed memory
Vista home Premium

The processor is quite good... more powerful than mine. I have a 8600GTS 512mb, and I believe that 8600M GT is an integrated chipset... not a dedicated card...

So it will be able to run it but I dont think the graphic quality will be that good...

Dell are selling machines which are a few times higher than what you want to buy but have 2 graphics cards and I think quad core too.

All in all, it might play it but not too brilliantly.

I tried the FSX demo on my laptop and the graphic quality was quite nice...Of course, it was the demo so I can't really say anything for the full version.

I have an 8400GT, 2GB RAM and a T7300 processor...Just for kicks, I ran the demo maxed out...I got close to 16FPS

FSX would run okay on that kind of laptop (not brilliant but playable) but I have to say FS9 would be blindin' on it 8-) Laptops are more of a compromise than towers so you have to expect slightly lesser performance. But if you're only simming and the rest is work it makes sense to me ;)
Kris have you looked at either the Gateway E-475M or the HP Pavilion dv6500t, they're about the same price and both very good.

There are two types of aeroplane, Spitfires and everything else that wishes it was a Spitfire!
