Saitek throttle quadrant

Postby macca22au » Tue Dec 18, 2007 7:11 pm

I have the new Saitek yoke and quadrant.  I find its heavy feel not unlike the real world so I do not share some of the concerns others have expressed.

However even after reading and re-reading the inadequate instructions,  I atill can't make sense of them.  I can't work out how to programme reverse thrust into the quadrant - for the propellor controller for propjets and the throttle for pure jets.

I am sure it is simple but that only means its even harder for me!

Is the answer so pathetically obvious that no one has the heart to help!  sigh!

Maybe the product is so news that few have bought it so there is not a user base to answer?

So, I'm unsure what you bought.... :-/

I've bought the Saitek throttle.
(http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb2 ... 96453756/0)

What exactly do want the throttle to do? For how many engines?
I configured it as to be 2x black levers for 2 engines and 1 red one used as airbrake control. Most aircraft I fly have 2 eingines.

So if you move the levers in the neg. area it's like pressing a button. And If configured one as reverse thrust (F2 by default...)

Did this help?

Cheers, have a nice Xmas,

Fabian

I do not use the product so I do not have any info to share

I think John's got a good point there, maybe in a few more months (or days, as I'm sure someone must've got one for Crimbo!). :)

All I wanted to know was how to programme reverse thrust below the zero position on the prop control for propjets, and below the zero position of the throttle for jets.

Sorry it is so simple but I just can't work it out from the very small book.

In my experience Saitek controllers are not the easiest to set up. I used 3rd party profiles for the various sims on my old X36 combo which seemed to work very well. I dimly recall having to tweak a CFG file for it to work properly in FS. They might have sorted this out by now. I haven't seen any profiles for the throttle quadrant.

I've had a search on Google & the best I can find is an article on setting up the CH Products throttle quadrant. I assume this works in much the same way as the Saitek version. Here's a direct link to the zipfile which contains a PDF file. http://home.att.net/~stickworks/cmnote02.zip

This is an extract covering reverse thrust.
Using the Throttle Quadrant with Flight Simulator

There are a few things to note about using the Throttle Quadrant with Flight Simulator. First, Flight
Simulator, at least in the later versions, seems to have no built-in capability that will allow an axis to
control reverse thrust directly. An axis can control the throttle, but reverse thrust can only be controlled
with keystrokes. It is possible to gain analog control of reverse thrust, but it requires the use of Peter
Dowson's excellent FSUIPC utility.

It is possible to control reverse thrust using the Control Manager alone but controlling it with the F1 and
F2 keys. This can be activated using the virtual buttons that the Control Manager provides. The FSUIPC
utility can be used with the Control Manager to control reverse thrust, too. FSUIPC can also be used
without the Control Manager. This document assumes that the Control Manager is installed. I've found it's
easier to set up and the detent is stabler with the Control Manager running than just relying on Windows,
but the operation of FSUIPC is basically the same with or without the Control Manager installed. The main
differences come in the calibration procedures since, without the Control Manager, the Throttle Quad must
be calibrated using the standard Windows calibration applet and FSUIPC. Both of these topics are
discussed a bit later. For operation without the Control Manager, you can skip the sections on Direct Mode
and Mapped Mode.

I don't know if it would be possible to map the reverse thrust command (F2 key) to the prop levers without using FSUIPC. Then you could select reverse by pulling the prop levers back behind the zero detent & control the amount of thrust with the throttles.

ok, so what i've done is gone into the settings, and set the backwards button of the first throttle (button 21) as "Throttle decrease quickly" and make sure the repeat part is turned on to whatever you want, i've got it on full. you don't get too much control out of it, but it works well enough. then, when in the aircraft just push the throttle all the way down and the reversers come on.
