It'll probably use a little more power but not significantly so. Are you planning to use it as a second drive or whip the old one out and make that your primary?

Actually as far as I knew all drives (of the same type) pull the same amount of power, they just have more space to pack data into. So you will be fine. If one does pull more than another, its only going to be a couple watts and nothing that would overload your system

Also, has anyone seen a timeline for when the Solid State hard drives may start to become affordable?


Not any time soon. I would think maybe 2010 before you could start picking up 64 and 72GB drives for under $100
