Serious Windows boot problem...

Postby Mees » Tue Dec 18, 2007 12:00 pm

Hey all,

I have a problem, I'll explain it to you chronologicly:

First off, it booted, I enter my password etc and all i get to see is my desktop image. Next I press/hold the power button and restart, it's normal shows the Energy thingy screen, and then I get a Windows screen with boot in save mode, boot normally etc. This doesn't work as my keyboard only works in the BIOS and in Windows.

Anyway, it doesn't go any further than the save mode screen. It then restarts and shows the boot screen again. I tried to boot from the CD. Either I am a moron or it just doesn't work...

...Well, that's about it, any ideas?

So what does it do? Normally there's a clock counting down 'till he continues with the selected item ~1 min (normal boot, save boot and so on....).Then it should go on.

Can you attach a PS2-Keyboard and select normal boot?

Did you cut all power and switched the power supply off and onn agian? Sometimes hepls...

Hope this helped a bit,

Cheers,
Fabian

Yeah, the clock counts and after that it reboots again.

And no, my PS2 connection is screwed up, so that's basically why i have an USB one...:P

So you've got no chance to select another item.... :-/,

What went wrong when booting from CD?
Did you try to boot a Live-Linux? (Knoppix...)
Or a Windows PE?

Sounds like you have a messed up MBR. But not being able to boot to a CD? That would be a problem with your Hardware. When you are in your BIOS make sure that you have USB keyboard and mouse support turned on. I know I forgot to do this once a long time ago, and changing that option in the BIOS solved the problems I was having. Once you turn that option on in the BIOS, and you reboot, hold down your boot menu key (usually F11) and select the CD drive (make sure you have a XP or vista disk in). Once everything on the disk loads, select repair, and you are presented with a dos screen. Tell it what partition you want to work with (usually 1, but it will say WINDOWS) type in the admin password (because there isn't one, just press enter) then type in FIXBOOT....press enter, let it finish. Then type in FIXMBR press enter, then press Y. Let that finish, type in exit, and let the machine reboot. After all this you should be fine.
