Have you updated directx using the MS web tool? (won't matter but thought I would toss that in as a bonus)

When you installed 3DMark did you run it as admin?

TADAAAAAAAA

That did it

It ran at 9463 in Vista and hit 9802 in XP, I'm happy again.

Now, where is the new highspeed quads from AMD and new single slot boards from ATI.

OK, so the problem is new vista updates applied from MS are keeping the installer from properly executing the 64bit process which will probably require Futuremark and Creative to alter their installer so it works with Vista updates.

Glad to see you moved up in the world. I did not have the heart to tell you a while ago that the Crosshair motherboard you were using was pretty much a design flop, which is why I skipped over playing with it.

Given those are the scores running the default BIOS settings, I can see you hitting some new high notes if it were tweaked. Its also possible the new power regulation on that motherboard will keep the CPU/memory stable at higher clocks where the crosshair fell on its face.

ATi and Nvidia will be coming out with dual GPU cards soon. That means your 4 slots have the ability (with ATi) to run 8 GPU's.. but I dont remember how and if that translates to a bus reduction as cards are added.

Although I know whats coming and what is out, I have not directly worked with the new AMD boards as of yet.

Am not sure if it was a upgrade or something quirky with the board. Originally I used the Vista disc from the Crosshair board and the benchmarks ran fine.

Feeling insecure about the Vista install I reformatted and reinstalled Vista. That is when the 3DMark06 problem started.

During the install I had another problem with the following error.

"Windows could not configure one or more system components. To install Windows, restart the computer and then restart the installation"

The cure... Had to go to the Control Panel, Programs & Features, Turn Windows features on or off.

Once there I had to uncheck XPS Viewer( under MS.Netframe), Remote Differential Compression, Windows DFS Replication Service.

Last night I installed Vista SP1 Beta now Kaspersky is telling me this is a forbidden URL. If it did not take so long to load in I would back the service pack out and make sure that is what the problem is.

Update... did a restore back to pre SP-1 and it is the service pack that is causing the error. Not sure if I should notify Kaspersky or Microsoft about this?????

Not sure

You installed a beta service pack so therfore neither will support it, although you can report it to both and see what they say. Someone may have an answer.

Well... found the problem with the benchmark speed drop.

The board had a bad thermal sensor and reported the temp wrong causing the CPU to throttle back.

That will do it

Rare to have that happen too

Given the memory problems and the sensor failure, you are certainly better off on the current board.
