Upgrading

Well for Christmas i was going to get a new graphics card and power supply, however, i had a little go of Vista recently and it isn't as bad as i first thought.

If you plump for that set up Stuart you'll also need some DDR2 RAM, as your current RAM is likely DDR.

Any reason you're not going Intel core 2 duo? Also are you looking at reusing your 6600GT?

You can get some good deals on Motherboard/core 2 duo processor/RAM bundles at the moment, check out a few sites  :)

No reason about the Intel, i will have a look into the Intel stuff this weekend.  I am going to keep hold of the 6600GT for the time being.  I also do need to double check the RAM i have.

Any recommendations for the deals you mention?

Your power supply should be fine with that. Bear in mind most motherboards now have a 24-pin power connector (older ones are 20-pin).
However I'd change it as soon as you can afford to, or if you get a newer graphics card, whichever is sooner  :)

Yes go with the Intel unless you really like AMD. Only a fool (like me) would buy AMD at this point. AMDs new quad cores can just about match the Core 2 clock for clock but considering the Phenom has a hard time hitting 3 Ghz while the Core 2 can do 4 makes this a moot point. If AMD could sell their quads at 100-150 and turn a proffit they would be selling like hot cakes.

If you want the absolute fastest thing you can buy don't waste your time with AMD...

Tee hee, you make it sound like 4Ghz is its cap........ with the right board, and the right hands, core 2s are hitting 5 and 6, 4ghz is a very standard clock, esp when they can hit 3.4Ghz without even increasing the VCore.

No I was not implying it was a cap, I was trying to imply it hit 4 Ghz pretty easily. Guess i left out a word  :)

going to wait to get a new hardrive so ill be doing a wipe on it and then sorting Vista out
