DDR Memory

Postby Santaclauseee » Tue Dec 11, 2007 3:39 pm

Hey Guys!
Just wondering would my system (which is fairly old, but i'm slowly upgrading it) would profit from removing the 768MB of 333mhz memory and leaving in the 2 x 512MB 400mhz memory i got. think its dual channel but that will b something ill try out.

My current system is listed in my signature, ignore the memory spec.
kind regards

Well it really depends on waht you do. if you use a lot of programs that want to use a lot of ram like say a gig then the 768 MB would probably better because even though it is slower, not in dual channel, and the timings are probably horrid it would still be a lot faster for the computer to access the data in RAM than in the page file. So with a program that uses 1 GB of memory and you have 768 MB ram it only needs to page 256 MB. If you have 512 MB ram it needs to page 512 MB but...

The 512 in ram is faster. So really it depends on the program you are using etc. No one here can (IMO) give you a no BS answer to wich combo would be better for your system. I say try both combos out and see wich one works better and how the programs react.
