FSX/Hardware related question...

Postby Isak922 » Mon Dec 03, 2007 11:46 pm

Not sure if this should be posted here, or in the FSX forum; But here goes.

Last time I tried FSX (When the SP came out), I could run it fine on my current system, but only with the aircraft graphics settings on anything higher than Medium (I actually had it fairly high up). I'd get around 10FPS, constantly, when locked at 15 or so.

Currently, my PC has 512MB of Ram (DDR, PC2700; if that helps). The video card is a Radeon 9550 (I believe it also goes by X1050) (256MB); and my Processor is rated at 3.2GHz (Single Core).

On my next paycheck, I'm planning on dropping that 512, and getting two 1Gig sticks of DDR PC2700.

Going by the information I know, and have given you; How will this affect FSX's performance? I'm fairly sure I can expect a HUGE decrease in loading times; but how about FPS?

Should I possibly also invest in a better video card? The store I work at (Circuit City) has a 512MB video card going for about $100 now. I'm not sure whether my PC will support it though (It's an eMachines T3256; Everything is as it came except the Video Card. If anyone knows whether I need AGP or PCI/PCIE, Please do tell me! I have no idea myself =P). Is there an easy way to check, without opening up the Computer itself?

If so, what can you suggest for a new video card? I don't want to spend a great deal of money; But I do need to upgrade this guy. He's a few years old now, and is starting to get out-dated :P

The RAM is definitely the problem there. The more RAM you can afford the better. Most people seem to be poking around 2Gb for good performance. The processor you've got is pretty decent and the graphics card isn't bad either. What resolution are you running FSX at?

I was running at 1152x768 I believe. The same I run all games on this PC.

Should run pretty well with the extra RAM, the more you can afford the better ;)
