Where to find window hot fix for intel dual core

Postby hosseing » Mon Dec 03, 2007 4:51 pm

Hi All,

I was reading  a thread by Nick regarding the hot fix for dual core cpu.  (http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb2 ... 795837/0#0). However, when I click on the link  provided to down oad the actaul fix, the browser says page not found. I don't know if it is out dated or what?

I bought my laptop around sept last year and it has 2 cores running at 2.0Ghz and 4 MB cash I beleive.(667 Mhs for front bus and 1G ram @ 667Mhz; video card is ATUI mobility with 256M memory. How is it supposed to perform with fs9 anyway? may be I need another thread for that  :D) Not sure about the exact name of the model. I was wondering if any one knows if I need the fix in the first plcae ( to get a better performance for FS9); if so, can anybody refer me to place wher I can download  and install it.
How do I find out how my cores are being utilized during game play anyway?

Thanks
Best regards

Don't know about the fix but that computer should run FS2004 OK but it isn't a powerhouse. You probably will need to turn a few things down. There were a lot of lower resolution textures posted when FS2004 first came out. Should still be in the downloads for FS2004 here at SimV. I didn't have much  of a computer at all when it first came out so I had to use the reduced textures and to tell the truth you couldn't tell them from the standard textures. Easiest improvement for your computer would be to add another gig of RAM. Does that video card share system RAM? If so then definitely add some RAM. With those things and not setting AG, clouds and traffic to 100% you should get pretty good performance.

The computer I'm using right now 2.8G processor, PC3200 RAM at 800mhz bus and Radeon 9600 Pro with 256mb was built especially for FS2004. Even then it was a little stuttery around big airports with high settings. Recently I added a 2nd Gig of RAM trying to make FSX work. FSX is still a little slow but after adding the RAM FS2004 is awesome. I've added loads of traffic (I now wait in long lines for take off), turned clouds up to 100% and installed better ground and sky textures and 2004 is still silky smooth. That's why I'm just going to hang on to my FSX until I can build a computer to really take advantage of it. For now FS2004 is like a new sim.

Dual core hotfix (KB896256) for XP SP2 x32 http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en

Once WindowsXP SP3 is released to the public in January that patch will no longer be needed. It is possible MS added that update to Windows Update and it may tell you the update was already applied. Make SURE you verify the registry is enabled as per my instructions after installing the patch.

The x64 version is not needed if you install SP2 for WindowsXP x64
