Radeon Video Cards

Postby aussiewannabe » Thu Nov 15, 2007 1:35 am

Awhile back it was recommended that a SAPPHIRE 100196L Radeon X1950PRO 512MB would be a nice replacement for my old ATI Radeon X300 (PCI Express x16) for FS9. Although it was out of stock, I later found a Diamond Radeon 1950PRO512PCIE at TigerDirect.com for $179. I bookmarked it, deciding I didn't need it since I was looking for work. Well now, that one has disappeared as of today. No big deal since I'm still looking for work. Shows you my priorities. But eventually I would like to upgrade the card. I found another site for the Sapphire card, but $242.00 is unacceptable to me.

The reason for this thread is that there's a lot of cards under ATI using the Radeon name which confuses me:

http://ati.pricegrabber.com/search_attr ... X1950/rd=1

Included in the list is the HIS Radeon X1950 Pro card:

Certainly, a lot less than the one Sapphire card I recently found, but I don't know if this one be a good match with my current system. I already know that I have to upgrade my PSU to 600 watts. It would also help if I took a peek under the hood to see if this will fit inside my case. Pretty crowded, but I as understand it, the video card in my system is the easiest thing to replace without tearing it apart.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks.

Radeon are the ATI factory models ...... Sapphire are an approved distributor of ATI chipsets on their own cards..... both are equally as good.
