Win Vista Home Premium

Postby Allen_Z » Sat Nov 03, 2007 9:33 pm

I hit the START button,

go up to PROGRAMS and a long list of programs comes up.

Some of these programs have been deleted,

but when I try to delete SOME of these program titles from the program list I get, "you do not have permission to perform this action"

This is VERY annoying, what do I do to get rid of these things from the program list?

How do I obtain 'permission' from a machine?

Why do some delete just fine, but not others...???

Do you have administrative rights to the machine? That might be the problem. ;)

It doesn't ask me who I am. How does IT know I'm NOT the one who has these 'rights'?

What course do I take to let IT know that I do?

You must be under an administrator account to do that. And even if you are, Vista has UAC (user account control) which will ask you if you want to perform certain actions. You can turn if off though.

Thanks, that kinda worked, when I did that, I could delete the files that I could not delete, as seen in my first post,

BUT,

as seen in the pic

'APPLY' doesn't highlight, and the change isn't permanent.

How does one go in  "under an administrator account "?

if there is only 1 account on the computer, then it is probably an admin account

if there are several, or the computer isnt yours, then there may be admin and limited accounts

if the computer is yours, you should be an admin. if not, ask whoever owns the computer to sign in for you

admins have the ability to install/uninstall and generally have higher levels of access and control than limited accounts (whom can use the programs, but dont have much in the way of adjusting them)

IT doesn't ask who is doing what.

1 computer

1 house

1 user

But IT doesn't know if I started it, or my cat just happened to push the right buttons...

It doesn't ask WHO I am, but it tells me I don't have permission?!?!?!?

How can IT, or why does IT do that?
