Sound Cards

Postby Mobius » Mon Oct 22, 2007 12:27 pm

Hey everyone, I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for a good Vista x64 compatible sound card?  I've been looking at: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6829102005 .

Thanks everyone. ;)

One good thing I notice about it....

It comes with a "Game Port" Socket, suitable for a Joystick or a MIDI interface....

...not all Sound Cards are fitted with them!...;)...!

Mine is a Creative Labs Soundblaster 1024 Live, Surround Sound, which is also MIDI'd to my Musical Instruments... :)..)

It also contains a Chip with a full set of General MIDI instruments on board!

F....Sounding off... 8-)...!

Warning: I notice the Drivers are for Win XP.
The Drivers for my Card, (when I bought it originally), were for Win 98SE only, and I had to search the 'Net for a modified driver suitable for Win XP...!!

Hi,

Creative make some good stuff and you won't be dissapointed. I run Vista and a XFi Xtreem Music - well chuffed.

Before you buy = please look up Creative Xfi in Wikipedia - the XFi chippy speeds up the computer by doing the processing for the sound and it really cool.

I don't think there is much difference between Extreem Gamer, Fatality and extreem music  -they all use the same XFi chip.

Check out creative web site forums as well - there has been some compatability issues with sli cards, mum boards causing crackling.
I have had none of this and am well pleased. Makes one hell of a difference to FSX. Yuo will start to hear the noises from each side of the plane at once and hear the ambient sounds much better.

I notice the extreem gamer will give you almost the same for half price. Avoid the extreem audio - an older design. Check Wikipedia for details.

at 81$ its a snip.

Yep, that's the one I bought.  Except I got it with a $30 rebate, so I couldn't pass it up. ;)  Thanks for all the help. :)
