DVD-ROM drive woes

Postby ozzy72 » Tue Oct 23, 2007 3:21 pm

Well my little Optiarc DVD RW AD-5170A is having trouble reading disks it has written. Only multiple types (mixture of pics of Mini-mod, vids of Mini-mod and FS downloads) seem to have woes.
I've cleaned the drive twice and it's still playing up. Any ideas?

Our desktop is 5 years old and its DVD drive is dead. Our laptop's DVD drive is dying slowly too (nooo, I play FS9 on that ;( ) How old is the computer? HD are usually the first to go on a ccomputer...I can't help, but good luck anyways.

Which CD rom programs do you use?.

It has been hit & miss mistery the reading & writing to CD/DVD R & RWs for years with me.

Sometimes they worked & others not. Restarting, after managing to use one, before being able to see another.

I gave up the Roxio's Eazy CD Creator, and keep a shortcut handy of the "incd" part of Nero.

When I wont to use one of my CD/DVDs, I run this almost invisible little chap, and start using my CDrom or DVDrom.

Without it they do not write or halve of their contents are not shown, & sometimes even the PC hungs.

When the devils gets to them, I restart & start again.

For lesser savings & jobs I now use Mem Stick, 2gb

I've been using Nero 7. I tried the disks today on a machine at school and they work just fine. I'm totally mystified on this one. I think I'll probably strip and clean it and check for dry joints (it is out of warranty)....

I do not even have Nero installed, just its "INCD".

Is incd running before you put the cds in the drive?                  luke

I have a question, how do you clean up your drive? I'm having trouble with my drive and I need a solution. If it has anything to do with taking apart the computer though then don't bother explaining it to me.

2 things clean the laser lens ,very gentle get a Q-tips ,DO NOT PUSH To Hard ,just remove the dust of the tiny surface of the lens ..and other could be the motor drive ,the one that holds the dvd..I can't be replace

EDIT: I forgot , if you has used those "Clean lens Cds" forget it Mark , I Call them "DVD-CD ROM murders" they hit this delicate lens at high speed , I recomend never to use them ,instead to clean it up by your self using a cottom q-tips  8-)
